Grand Tetons (Day 3)

We checked out of the Jackson Lake Lodge and headed south. We had a pretty long day of travel ahead of us, and we were feeling the effects of our long hike, so we decided to go for a small hike to stretch our legs before the ride. We stopped at Taggart Lake Trailhead and ventured out for a quick 3.2 mile hike out to the lake and back. The sky didn’t look so good, so we decided we better bring our rain gear, just in case. Actually, they tell you to alwaysbring rain gear…they say the Tetons create their own weather patterns as fronts move over the mountains, so weather can change at any time, and quickly.

We encountered some light rain on the walk to the lake, and then the thunder started while at the lake. We opted to take the shorter way back because of the weather, and it was a wise choice. We walked quickly for awhile, saw the lightning and heard thunder even closer, and the trail was wide open – felt very vulnerable - so we ultimately sprinted the last ¾ mile out of the trail. Another adventure, for sure!!
